Guys, opinions please. I'm running Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in a 2004 Subaru Outback, 2.5L. Napa Gold filter. Is this good for a 5k mile OCI? I've read the Subie 4-bangers are not real hard on the oil. She don't leak and she don't burn any oil. Thanks.

The EJ25 is fairly easy on oil unless it's the turbo'd model. No timing chain or anything fancy. I wouldn't hesitate to go 7,500 to 10,000 unless you are considered severe service or you DO indeed have the turbo.

I drive a 96 Legacy.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 turns in boring used oil analysis on my 2.5 '07 at 7500 miles and Wix 51365 filter changed every other time. Have 35,500 miles on it now. Also have an '06, where I put any good 5-30 in, just got a bunch of free Quaker State synthetic and Truck/SUV synthetic (What will marketing come up with next? Q-Torque for maximum torque? Come on! Although these two oils are slightly different in color, do people really believe this oil will give higher torque readings? Stupid concept to me, but, a very good oil, and for FREE!) Anyway, it's mostly around-town driven, so, I don't often go the full 7500 OCI's. A '99 in the family uses Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 with boring results, too.

Most of my cars, on average, are driven 9-11K miles a year. They get an OC twice a year with PP.

Ran a couple used oil analysis for giggles and found that to be a waste too.

I also use Mobil 1 or Amsoil EAO filters. However, they get changed once a year but I do dump them at each OCI.

My Subie 2.5 is NOT a turbo, and I live and drive it in Silicon Valley, CA. Not severe service other than when I drive her at 80 MPH on the freeways. So, 5k or even 6k will be fine, from what I hear. Thanks guys.

Those flat 4 bangers sure do run smooth and have a fair amount of power for only 4 cylinders. I just wish the shifter didn't feel so much like a loose rubber band.

I am running at this moment QTorque 10-40 in my Suzuki and am feeling squirmish at 4,500 miles....It works like a group 4/5 but the group 3 does not go extended OCI's. 5K is about the limit without a used oil analysis. Someone stated that PP stated 4K guarantee. My little Suzuki is liking the Torque oil and runs good, oil is transparent golden brown. But this Friday, it will see a new batch of Qtorque 99cent oil.
The daytime temp this week in Idaho is 106

Hot, Hot, Hotter.

I'm going to be changing my 07 NA Outback 2.5l this weekend @ a little over 5k (just got back from a 3,500 mile trip up to MT and Canada) with Havoline 5w30 DS.

Oil still looks and works great and of course, I'll be doing a used oil analysis.

I'd do 7.5k miles with PP with no worries, I'd do it with conventional too once I get more than 10k miles on the engine.

(29.15 MPG overall for the whole trip. 75-80 mph most of the time and very little downshifting needed. VERY IMPRESSED with the Outback... (it does ping when going slow (25mph in 2nd) up steep grades like in a park... Chevron gas stunk...)

Take care, bill.
