Hello all

I'm going to change the exhaust pipes of my beater this wk end and I have a noob question for someone who is familiar with exhaust gasket. In fact, I notice the gasket between the cat and the A pipe has one flat face in one side and a "round" face in the other side (link).

AFAIK, the flange from the cat has a flat face. As for the A pipe, its flange has a circumferential flat groove (link).

My question is how should I position the gasket between the flanges. I haven't disassembled the exhaust pipe yet, so I have no idea what is the old gasket orientation. Furthemore, the old gasket is probably rotten out and it will be hard for me to determine its orientation.

thx

Helpful to know what your "beater" is.

But even so, they usually hold up quite well and the orientation may be determined.

My beater is a honda civic 2000 dx

I'd point the vee towards the flat flange, so that its "legs" are contained by what's basically an o-ring groove.

While you could put it in backwards and it'd work, there's a chance the legs could squish out.
