I recently had knee surgery and am looking for an exercise bike with a flywheel on it. Do any of you guys know which ones are any good? I am currently using a Monark at my physical therapy place, but it is $900 new. I don't want a recumbant one. I have seen a couple other brands out there, but was wondering what you guys use. I am looking in the $500-$600 range. Thanks, Joe

I have a Giant mountainbike. Do you have any suggestions from that page of trainers? Thanks, that is a great idea, Joe

I have heard that fluid is better than magnetic but it may be a personal choice. I have a fluid trainer with the remote which I have long since taken off.

If you want basic "strengthen the knee" trainer, I would get the basic Travel Trak Fluid here:

If you want the "remote", get this one:

I would highly recommend the Trainer block:

This levels the bike. Also, invest in a set of smooth street tires for the mountain bike and save your ears.

Hope this helps. It may not be 100% of what you want but it's $200 opposed to $900. You can't log mileage unless you change your computer but that's not the issue with the rehab.

I have a Tacx mag-trainer that I've been using for a couple of years and I like it. It was only $200, and it's well-built and has a 1kg flywheel. My girlfriend has a Minoura mag-trainer. It only has a 500g flywheel and the design is much flimsier, but it was also a little cheaper and she seems to like it. I'm sure Minoura makes some better ones too.
