I recently had knee surgery and am looking for an exercise bike with a flywheel on it. Do any of you guys know which ones are any good? I am currently using a Monark at my physical therapy place, but it is $900 new. I don't want a recumbant one. I have seen a couple other brands out there, but was wondering what you guys use. I am looking in the $500-$600 range. Thanks, Joe

Do you have a regular bike? If so, you could by either a fluid or magnetic trainer for around $200 (some less) and hook it up to your regular bike.

After my knee surgery, I hooked up my road bike and never looked back. As you know, you can adjust tension and you also have gears so you can tailor your effort and recovery.

I have heard that fluid is better than magnetic but it may be a personal choice. I have a fluid trainer with the remote which I have long since taken off.
If you want basic "strengthen the knee" trainer, I would get the basic Travel Trak Fluid here:

This levels the bike. Also, invest in a set of smooth street tires for the mountain bike and save your ears.

I have a Tacx mag-trainer that I've been using for a couple of years and I like it. It was only $200, and it's well-built and has a 1kg flywheel. My girlfriend has a Minoura mag-trainer. It only has a 500g flywheel and the design is much flimsier, but it was also a little cheaper and she seems to like it. I'm sure Minoura makes some better ones too.
