One of the surprises of my graduate education in the sciences was how little training we were given with respect to statistics. The truly scary part is how little stats training biomedical researchers receive.

In fact, scientists are currently debating whether the commonly used standard of p < .05 is a sufficiently rigorous standard. Some argue that p < .005 or p < .001 should be the new standard.
