I have been running amsoil 5w-30 (the XL7500 series) oil in my 1.8l honda motor for the last 2k miles and i have learned a ton since i first purchased it. I was currently thinking of switching to their 5w-40 euro spec oil. Would this be an ok choice for my motor? Not sure if the 40 weight is going to be to 'heavy' for my motor. Its an all motor application with around 11.5:1 compression (dont know if this really matters.)

I'd use the Amsoil 5w-30(ASL) in the winter and the 10w-30(ATM) in the summer. I don't think this engine needs a 40wt oil at all.

since this is a synthetic oil then what is the advantage of using 10W30 over 5W30? Both of them are same grade when hot!

In Southern California wouldn't 10W30 be fine all year round?

Does it even get below 40F in the winter?
