I had to educate my local Esso bulk dealer that this 0-40 XD3 is a full synthetic POA based oil now thanks to all postings on this oil in here. He maintained it was still semi syn, I insisted he check his spec sheet. My concern is when I pick this oil up that I dont get the old semi syn oil stock. His price is $4.19 Can per litre bought per litre or 12 case lot, good deal.
As a note of interest on quality of this XD3 oil, Esso makes John Deere oil, I am told the only difference between Deere and Esso XD3 is price, most buy which ever is cheapest at time for their JD. John Deere is not a company who would bargain basement an oil for their diesels in my opinion.
I am now using 15-40 XD3 in my Dodge diesel for 2500kms, seems good. I just bought this 15-40 XD3 on sale for $2.19 at Esso bulk, regular price is $2.56 litre 12 case lot or 2.76 separate. I paid over $3.00 litre for 15-40 Duron dino by Petro Can. I will post analysis on Wally semi 15-40, Duron 15-40 dino and will post this XD3 15-40 dino analysis with my upcoming winter XD3 0-40 syn analysis. All four together in one post will show a decent comparison of oils this spring when last two analysis are done.
In my 92 Cummins I am going to use this XD3 0-40 year round from now on starting this fall before the cold winter starts. At $4.19 litre for full 100% POA syn oil how can one go wrong with this oil? Compared to Duron dino 15-40 it is only $12.00 Can more for a 12 litre OCI in a 92 Cummins, I can extend the OCI a bit too.
Super Flo is 5.75 per litre for 5-30 full syn oil. This XD3 0-40 I plan to use in my diesel now year round is recommended for gasoline and meets all my 2003 Altima requirements in API.
I have learned in this forum that diesel oils are substantually fortified and many members here use them in gas engines according to postings, I even use diesel oil in an old Honda four stroke motorcycle now.
Will this 0-40 XD3 actually be a better oil than a gas rated Super Flo syn for a 03 Altima?
One concern, my Nissan manual recomends a 5-30 oil year round, if a 0-40 syn XD3 can be used in a diesel year round, should not be problem with a Nissan 2500cc 4 banger gas, right?
thanks,
