Well since everyone was very helpful with info on the little Hyundai I just picked up for my kiddo I thought I'd try again. Next month I will be buying my Dad's ZX2 as he can't drive anymore. I'm buying it to keep it in the family and use as a commuter car. My poor Stang is getting tired!

Any info or experiences with this car would be helpful. Its a 2000 model with the 2.0L 4cyl and auto trans. Thanks in advance!

My sister has one and my girlfriend's dad has one. Both say it's great on gas. My personal recommendation is to use the Motorcraft FL-400S oil filter. For only $3.49, it's hard to beat that price. Plus it has a silicon ADBV. The regular Purolator L25230 for the ZX2 is $5 alone! It's been back-specced to use 5W-20, which I plan on using when I change it next before winter.

My best friend had a 1998 ZX-2 for about 8-9 years. 2.0L, DOHC I-4 with a 5-speed.

He beat on that thing mercilessly the whole time he had it - almost every shift was done at redline. Did lots of long trips at 80mph+ with the engine running almost 4,000 rpm.

Got about 130k out of it at the end. Engine ran fine. Was very reliable - didn't have any unexpected breakdowns, just normal maintenance and wear and tear. He did OC's at various quick-lube places every 5-6k miles. Burned about 1/2 quart per OCI.

I was pretty impressed; I thnk they are excellent cars.

Yes I would definitely use the MC filter. i wasn't sure about the 5W20/30 thing as I haven't read the manual yet so that's good to know. I'm not sure which weight I will use yet...it's kinda a what mood am I in thing.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I had originally planned on using 5W-20 year round, but I figured since my stash is 90% 5W-30, I'll just use the 5W-20 in the winter unless I get a bunch of it on sale, since I'm having to pay nearly full price for it.

Cool, thanks addyguy, thats good to hear. I have to drive it back from Florida so I should get to know it quick. My commute is 30 miles at 70-80 mph and I've heard they are revvers on the highway

but I guess it doesn't hurt anything.

Peruse teamzx2.com.
Lots of info .

Use 5-20 or 5-30. Probably 5-30 in Texas.
Since the Motorcraft FL2005 is no longer made, use the FL400s.
The engine is NON interference, if you break a timing belt [the valves won't hit the pistons].
These Zetec engines vibrate somewhat at idle, but are bulletproof and have good torque.
ALL vacuum and intake connections must be in perfect shape. Pay special attention to the PCV system - the whole length.
I'd get an aftermarket tranny cooler in series after the stock radiator trans cooler. Fresh fluid is always a good idea.

good car . Relative had one . Only thing was the access to and room in the rear seat . Insurance was more too . Silly that it's higher . Not a real tire burner .
