There is a member on another forum that claims the Chinese made 3.4L uses a distributer cap as opposed to coil-packs?

Can anyone confirm this? Not that dist. caps are a horrible thing, but c'mon, talk about a step back in time. GM has been using coilpacks since the mid 1980's!

I'm pretty sure the 2200 in my Cavalier uses a distributor, and it's a 2000.

Anduril, I once owned a 1991 Cavalier with 2.0L I-4. It had a dual coil pack (one coil powered 2 sparkplugs) direct ingition system, no distributer. I'm sure your 2000 has no distributer either!

how's these chinese made 3.4L intake manifold gaskets holding up?

Funny you should mention that. The guy that 'thought' these engines used a distributer cap claims he worked for GM and now works for a gasket company in MI. He claims the ~2004 gasket revision drops the failure rate from nearly 100% to ~10%.

Then again, the accuracy of this fellas info is already in the dumper.

Strange. The window sticker tells where the engine/transmission is built. I don't recall seeing "China" there at all.

The window sticker for my 2006 HHR just indicates where final assembly was.

The 3.4L engines in the Equinox and Torrent are assembled in China.

The 3.6L engines in the Equinox Sport and Torrent GXP are assembled in St. Catherines (Ont., Canada).
