Engine running too hot?

I've recently been tracking my Eclipse's coolant temps with a datalogger and I see that they range from 200-210 F. Is that too hot? The OEM thermostat is 190 degrees...good idea to get a cooler one or is everything fine as is? Thanks!
 
Totally fine. Thermostat temp is the opening temp. Final water temps is going to be determined more by ambient temps and airflow through the rad - either by going down the road or the fans turning on.

Is it getting hot down there in Tempe?!? Bet it runs cooler in winter.

230 and up is when you need to worry.

I would never get a lower temp thermostat for an engine. Get the proper thermostat and find the problem if you are running too hot. Thats not to say thermostats do not get stuck open or closed and need to be replaced, but replace it with the proper one.
 
I'm with Donald. Definitely DON'T get a lower temp thermostat. The engine is computer controlled and the engine needs to reach at least 190 for the engine to be "warmed up" as far as the ECU is concerned. If the thermostat is original, you may want to change the thermostat and maybe while your at it, drain/flush coolant if that has some age on it for piece of mind. Considering the ambient temps that occur in AZ, 200-210 does sound pretty normal.

Hotter is better for engine efficiency [when cruising], so like the guys said, don't go cooler with your thermostat.
Ford has a bi-temp electronic thermostat, which is around 215-220 when cruising, and 195 when at full throttle.

It's pretty hot, the high in Mesa is expected to be about 105'F today!
 
A thermostat should have no impact on total cooling system capacity. The only time a lower thermostat makes any sense is when you're in something like a hyper over powered engine with too small a cooling system. In that situation, you're giving yourself a few extra seconds at high output before you're forced to slow down to fit within the capability of the system.

You're providing a "delay to overheat" ..where overheat is assured at a given output level. Otherwise, there's no difference in system capacity.
