There is more information needed. How was the engine used? Severe service? How was it maintained? Manufacturer? There are so many variables.

Same discusion different forum. I think people can say a lot on the internet with no data. For or against a product. I highly doubt the 0W-30 made the guy's car a sludge monster in 80K. I think sour grapes made the whine. Who knows the truth? Not I - and believe me I have had my sour grapes with Amsoil. I just hate it when people call products bad names, I get ****** then tune it out real quick.

I would not believe it unless I seen it with my own eyes. All to easy to say anything on the web. People often refuse to take responsibility for the actions or lack of, then blame the product when it was something else that caused the problem. If his engine is indeed sludged up, then oil would not normally be the problem but an indication of something else being wrong. Like a coolant leak, bad PVC or other emission relate item. Some accuse the guy of being a salesman for Amsoil but who is to say they are not one for some other oil company who sees Amsoil as threatening their products? A guy down the road at the local party store was bitching about Ford truck having poor quality seats and his is nothing but junk. If he were to come here and say that, many would probably agree BUT one look at him and you would soon see, no seat would hold up to his 400+ lbs, less a basic F150 cloth bench seat.

If I read it correctly, he changed the Amsoil every 3K miles, and at 80K he had to have the engine flushed. He is the same guy that is selling flood insurance in the Sahara Desert. [Duh!]

He said he bought the Amsoil line---hook, line, and sinker, so it could be a typo and he meant 30K. I could believe that scenario, if it was fairly new and he did a couple of 30K oci's and flushed it. Why would an Amsoil guy do 3K, it's goes against all logic?.

I agree - sounds a little fishy. Dollar store oil will keep an engine clean at 3K OCIs and with only 80K miles total. He proably threw in some Slick 50 or some other gunky engine additive. Not only that, but he seems like he had no actual contact with his engine. How did he really know that the motor flush guy wasn't taking him for a ride? He didn't even say he saw the sludge. Too many variables to even consider his claims.

A guy I work with had his bronco's engine flushed at a quick lube place when he first bought it and 2k later the motor spun a crank bearing, so I would not go by anything a quick lube place says. Also if he was changing s2000 every 3k then why did he go for the engine flush in the first place? Any synthetic changed at 3k would keep the inside of the motor spotless.

Yes, well one of two. At our Dollar General, you can get a fine Shell Clean Formula 10W-30 for $1.00/qt., which should be good for 3-4K miles. Or, the Uni-Lab 10W-40, SF-rated, but HAS detergent, for 75 cents/qt. That should be good for 2K mile OCI.

Wouldn't believe Amsoil or any synthetic oil for that matter would cause any engine to sludge up like that. Lot of Amsoil bashing as I'ved used Amsoil since the early 80's and will admit I am bias to Amsoil over Mobil 1....I have not tried Mobil 1 for last 20 years but did try the Mobil SUV 5wt-40 and it's a winner as Mobil has formulated an excellent diesel synthetic oil for the average consumer. I pay my $$$ cause I want less wear and anyone who knows of synthetic oil Amsoil gives LESS wear PERIOD. Values as one see it I need my vehicles cause I got a business to run I want my vehicle with LESS wear cause my vehicle is too valuable...it's making my money daily in it's operation. $$$ is no issue...I pay for what I want!!! I don't push my synthetic to the limit.. just get the job done!!!For the average Joe, Mobil is more than a bargain at it's price...Mobil might be changing itself in more ways than we might expect...the SUV is Mobil's top flight winner...as more will realize it's beyond it's price in excellence!!!

Sorry Jelly too broad a statement to state as synthetic is NOT what it was 20 years ago!!!! It's the synthetic base...speak of today...I'll retract that statement of Amsoil as tech in synthetic is advancing better than we think...My apoligy!!!!
