Effective, safe flea shampoo for dogs?

Does anyone know of an *effective*, safe flea shampoo for dogs, that can be used weekly? The liquid drops applied to the dog's back are supposed to be used only monthly, & don't work near long enough- plus they don't stop bugs from climbing on. The drops also say they remain effective after a bath. Well, I bathed the doggie Saturday afternoon, & after a good look at lunch now, can only say,"You wanna bet?"

If you know of anything over the counter, or available from the vet only, please let me know. This will be used on a small white terrier mix dog, about 20 pounds now. She's gone from a pound puppy in danger of the needle to being a pampered little "doggie princess" that now lives in the house & only goes outside on a leash.

Any help appreciated. When Googling I only found advertising so far.

I hate to see you go to once a week baths. Even the mildest shampoo is going to dry the skin. I would try some other products. I am happy going into my third summer using revolution on my 2 dogs. The older one is 12 and has a flea allergy from before the good stuff was widely used. I have heard good things about Sentinel, Program, Advantage, Bio spot etc.. Look for a product that repels as well as kills fleas. If you have a fleas infestation, you may have to treat your house and yard too. Maybe the car if the dog travels much. You also have to treat any other pets in the house.

Google turns up what somebody is paying to have it turn up.

Thanks labman. A 6-month supply of Sentinel(monthly heartworm, intestinal, & flea combo)is on the way. Our local vet no longer carries it but will order & have it sent direct at a price competitive to inet suppliers- I checked.

Dunno why they dropped it, used Sentinel on the previous dog & it seemed to really keep the fleas & eggs down. Can't give her the Sentinel anyway until ~June 24, so the order delay is no problem.

Also bought a bottle of the vet's flea shampoo, not much more expensive than internet prices on Adams Flea shampoo- which seemed to have the best ratings of off-the-shelf flea shampoos. At least the vet's should work well, & it claims to be easy on their skin. Even has powdered oatmeal in it!

Also got a pill, dunno name, said it begins killing fleas an hour after taking it. Vet's ofc said to give her the pill, wait a couple of hours, then bathe her. Pick up with the Sentinel heartworm medicine next month at HW dose time. Even use the drops too at the 1-month mark, about June 8. Fleas are really *bad* here this year, winter was even milder than normal.

I've already cleaned up the offending flea paradise on Mom's front porch(old rugs & such for the outside cat, it wandered up starving & Mom began feeding it about 10 yrs ago

). All stuff gone, swept & sprayed(concrete porch & brick wall), no fleas need apply!

I'll keep my eye out for Adams shampoo, but whatever I continue to use Cookie will get a bath weekly unless her skin gets bad. Will also look for some spray or powder for the ground near the front porch.
