Is there a such thing? My company recently moved from cable to DSL, some package deal with the cable at one of our offices. Our office only has one desktop computer, which is coneected by USB port, due to the old thing not having a ethernet port. I was trying to connect my router so that the rest of us can get internet to our laptops, but I dont have a phone plug in on my router, only ethernet ports. Is there a special router for these things, or a special cable, phone to ethernet for example? Thanks....

I'm using a LINKSYS BFSR-41 cable/dsl router. I run two Macs simultaneously off that. Works with an ethernet cable.
Usually you have a DSL modem connected to the phone line; and then ethernet from the modem to your computer or router.
the way i understood is: this is his set up (at least it should be this way normally):
DSL modem connected normally to wall phone jack--> then modem connected to router like normal (per ethernet cable); now there should (normally) be a ethernet cable running from the router to the PC; but in his case, his PC doesn't have ethernet ports, so he cannot connect the router with an ethernet cable...is that right, or...?
the pc only has USB; so he needs some kind of cable that has ethernet on on end (to router) and on the other end a USB jack (to PC)...
I have a feeling there ARE such cables.... search "Ethernet to USB cable"
perhaps that pack from Radioshack in my 1st post can already do that.

tmorris, MY desktop does have ethernet, this is a company computer. 97 tbird, that is correct. the modem has a port for the USB connection, looks like a USB cable for a small printer. Thats how it is connected to the modem. There is another connection for an ethernet cable on the modem but I tried to hook it up there and it shows the router on the laptops but dosent connect to the internet. At my house and when this one was cable, the modem went into the router and back out to the computers. Never no problems, on this one I cant connect the desktop through the router. Any ideas on why the ethernet connection wouldnt work on the modem?
Are you trying to use the USB and ethernet port at the same time?
Disconnect your PC from the modem altogether (no USB or ethernet to the modem). Connect the modem's ethernet port to the router. Now connect your PC and any other PCs to the router's ethernet ports. You should be in business. The modems are usually USB or ethernet, not both at the same time. The modem would have to have an internal router for this to work.
Also, with DSL, there is usually a need to provide a user name and password in order to get connected. This info is normally stored in the router and passed onto the modem whenever a connection needs to be established. If you're not using a router but connecting to the modem directly via USB, then most likely the PC is the one that forwards login/password info to the modem.
