Dry gas?

Shoveling the driveway after last night's snow, I found that the kid left the gas cap off and the gas filler door open. I don't think much snow got in--but I'm sure some did. No harm in finding some dry gas to toss in, right? I scooped out all I could, didn't seem like much fell in; we get the cheap stuff so I'm assuming it has a fair amount of ethanol.

Cheap stuff has the corrosive methanol. E10 gas comes with a gallon in every fill-up. I'd leave well enough alone and add nothing.
Good point, this is an old car and the last I need to deal with is something else breaking on it (injector or whatever). If it makes it the week (of this cold) then it's fine.

If you want to do something, fill up the tank to eliminate any chance that there may be moisture in the tank.
Other than that, leave it alone.

What happened to the kids? Shovel snow for a year for free?
He can’t shovel snow, the other is usually too busy to help. Plus I need all exercise I can get.

Am told it started hard today, didn’t catch on the first crank. But its a stupid Honda so I know the battery is not getting fully charged. If I get a chance I’ll see about hitting it with a charger.

Be glad it's not a diesel. Should water get past the filters and get to a CP4 pump it's likely to damage the pump at a cost of $10K to $15K.

I fill the tank when it is half full or just under. Every oil change I add Techron Total Fuel System Cleaner.

I’ve never had an issue.

We fill when it's on E. Several years ago I did dump some Techron into the two vehicles we had (each had 100k?) otherwise I haven't done anything for years. Not had an issue (yet). But we've never let snow into the fuel tank either. Bit of a first for us. Am hoping it's the last time it happens.

But unless you are getting E0 where you live (I knows it's available but it's expensive and most use it just in lawnmowers) then you already get a gallon or gallon and a half of ethanol in each tank of gas.

If you really think you have so much water you need more than 10% alcohol you have a major problem and the gas needs to be drained and tossed.

Given enough water the ethanol/water mixture will fall out of solution with the gas and you will have a bottom layer of ethanol/water and an upper layer of low octane gas. You are really screwed if that happens.

It apparently started today, and it was -10F, so whatever water might have been in there, was well sucked up and not presenting problems. Guessing it'll get filled up this weekend. So a complete non-problem.
