The girlfriend and I went to the Dependable Drive In last night to see IT: Chapter Two. Great movie. We could have stayed to see "Scary Stories to tell" but as late as the first movie starts; we just decided to go home. For $7/person you get to see both movies which is a deal. Drive in is open year round too. Anyone here go to drive in movies? One we went to has 4 screens and nice, clean restrooms and great fresh made food at concession stands as well.

It has been over 45 years since I went to one of those. The old drive-in area is now a ****'s Sporting Goods and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Even back in the 70's they broadcast it.
It was on AM back then (few cars had FM). I saw all the 70's Clint Eastwood movies like this,

Years later, When I used to take my girlfriend, we backed into the spot and had a love seat in the back of the truck. My stereo could CRANK the soundtrack!
The cooler was the ottoman.
There were dudes running around with jumper cables after the show was over.... there's always 3-4 cars that won't start, LOL

I got to grow up with the drive-in theater right across the road in the 1960s. I got into see all of them for free and it was a fantastic perk for a young kid. Too bad they're all gone now most left northern New York in the 1970s and early 80s. I would assume it was probably skyhigh property taxes versus the seasonality of the business that did them in . Then videos came along and finished the job. The last time I saw a movie at the drive-in was Dirty Dancing must've been in 1988 or 89 .

went a lot when I was in my teens early 20's or so...they closed most around my area...I think there may be 2 opened yet but just to far to drive , those were the days huh ?

The owners; everyone in my county and Allegheny county knows them well. They support car cruises, food drives and are a great couple in their late 70's. They still have the 60's polished aluminum speaker you can hang from your window: dont need to turn your radio on

Being open year around, they tell me they are real busy in winter. That's pretty cool

That is indeed. A piece of real Americana.

To be honest, our area sees rainy weather around nine months of the year. That's not conducive to a good drive in business.

I'm not sure if this was the last drive-in movie I saw but it was certainly the most fun. Probably the late 1970's, drove about 50 miles to the Parsippany NJ area on Rt 10. Saw Russ Meyers' "Super Vixens". Soft core porn. Put two guys in the front seat and 4 guys in the trunk to save a few dollars. Had to drive up to the booth real slow so as not to bottom out the muffler. Good thing that car had air shocks. Once safely inside the four us got out of the trunk and piled in. Nothing like 6 17 year old guys watching big boobs bouncing all over a movie screen. To this day, whenever I drive past where that theater was (it's an apartment complex now), I automatically go back in time and feel a smile coming to my face. It felt like a scene from "Happy Days". Good times and I certainly miss them!

We have 1 ironically in the town that the wifey and I moved to, but we haven't gone yet.

Also, I'm too [censored] old for a double feature that starts at 9pm.

During the Summer of1978 I saw the land which included the Norwalk Drive-In (Connecticut) bulldozed to build a Bradlee's (home store).
The rusted metal sign (fitted with neon) was still a classic.
Sure wish I had taken a picture of it. Don't ask me if the drive-in had been operational up to that point.

The one on Rt. 22 between Crown Point and Port Henry, NY is long gone. Gone are the ones you'd see whilst driving on the New Jersey Turnpike.
