Anyone know anything about V-belt designations and the difference in manufacturing or performance?

And maybe anything about optimal tension?

Fractional horsepower application. The existing belt is Dayton 4L540, looking for something that can run with less vibration, not interested at all in the linked/segmented belts at 4x the price.

Just something doesn't transmit a lot of vibration to the equipment. Even thinking about putting the motor on a hinged mount plate with a spring.

It may help if you describe the application Drive/driven. Is the vibration from the motor or the machine being driven? AC induction motors heavily loaded can vibrate a lot. A DC brushles motor will be much smoother with a good controller. A V-belt is inefficient frictional loss not good for low power. switch to cogged belt and pullys. Belt tension depends on application but NEVER make them zero slack they will overheat and may wear out bushings too.
