Just curious about this. There seems to be several terms that are used interchangably.Just to make sure I have to ask...

Do these terms all mean the same thing or is there a difference ?

Multi Viscosity.
Multi Weight.
Multi Grade.

Sorry to ask such a dumb question but as I have read here some things that seemed obvious before no longer do...

Thanks...

Same thing. I'd like to see the terms using "weight" and "grade" dropped. Weight should mean weight on a scale, and grade should mean quality ranking, not viscosity.

Check this chart for some info about what multi-viscosity oil means---it passes a cold viscosity spec and gets a "W" (meaning Winter) viscosity number, and it passes a hot (100°C) viscosity spec and gets the higher viscosity number.

Thank You Ken2,

I realize that sounded crazy but on one of the oil Mfgs websites ( sorry cant remember witch one ) made it sound somewhat misleading.... But it seems to make sence that they are interchangable.I have to agree with you as to a more standardization of these terms however innocent they are.Again I do appreciate the help.
