Dorman's new Ford Power Transfer Unit

When they go, they go hard. Hot enough to sludge, and they leak readily. Tick tick boom. Mine was leaking at 60k, what came out was black and thick. We sold the exploder because the water pump job didn't appeal to us, otherwise it was a very, very nice ride. Like my BMW, loved to get in and drive, the maintenance, not so much.

Dorman products can be hit or miss…with lots of misses. Some of their replacement brake lines are a hit. Perhaps they did their homework on this one.
Still, I’m letting someone else do the beta testing.

Thankfully they've changed the design over the years. The new Esacpe/Maverick/Bronco Sport all have fill AND drain plugs, are pretty easy to get to and change, and have additional air cooling going over them. Guess Ford finally got tired of replacing them.
