I think I've given you the exciting stuff. I'm only getting second-hand information anyhow. The manufacturer refuses to budge on the lube. And rightfully so, considering what the posts above have reported.

The thought now is to either go with a more wear-resistant bearing or with a larger one.
 
I was going to do the same till tonight anyways. Smoke started rolling off the 6hp briggs when I shut it down. Oil came out thinner than water and had a very metallic tint to it. I think it was PP 5w20..not sure. Put havoline 5w30 back it for now but I think I'll go get for 15w40 and put in tomorrow. It could be a goner the way it was running afterwords though.
