I assume you mean the MTU main diesels? They were used in the quasi-prototype for the LCS (FSF-1) also. They have a nifty (but complicated) 4-stage sequential turbocharging system that keeps them very efficient, and they're pretty light for the power output. And there is the MTU/Detroit Diesel connection as well. I don't know why they just didn't go with big Caterpillar or Cummins marine engines, I assume it came down to HP per pound. IIRC it has GE turbines for high speed- LM2500s just like US destroyers and cruisers use. Not that it matters, right now the darn thing is dry-docked again with corrosion problems. Another article I've read says they're adding more cathodic protection, so it should be a relatively simple fix. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-06-17...at-ship-1-.html
