These are two samples pulled from my Durango 3.6L with 141,500 miles total and 2,500 and 1,500 miles on the oil. The first sample had 2,500 miles, which was only meant to be run for 100 miles and used as a flush, because we are now using the 5w-20 CK-4 based oil and wanted the next base-line sample to be representative of the new oil. It was my fault for letting the flush oil run for 2,500 miles. The weather got cold and I got lazy. The 1,500 mile sample was meant to be sampled at 100 miles to establish a base-line. I forgot to sample until 1,500 miles - totally my fault again. I didn't throw the flush oil away, instead it's running in the Elantra where it will stay for 10,000 miles, I just couldn't throw it away.
It is interesting to see the wear metals and silicon left over in the first sample from the 26,000 mile run and how they decreased in the second sample. The oil filter was changed when I dumped the flush and had zero carbon, so the cleaning appears to be done. The TBN of the 1,500 mile sample is high, but the TBN if the 2,500 mile sample is lower than expected for this oil, maybe both are lab errors, we'll see how the TBN progresses as the miles add up.
