I might buy a new 06 Dodge Charger w/ the 3.5 V6.Are these motors sludge monsters? Thinking of getting the SE version. Nothing fancy (HEMI) just need a new car w/ warranty that I and my family can fit into. I also like that it is RWD.Thanks!!

No, the 3.5 is a very nice motor, it's the 2.7 that has issues.

BTW, good on ya for buying a CWD (Correct Wheel Drive) car...

Agreed. The 3.5 is the motor to have in the Dodge line-up. No issues with sludge in that motor at all.

Be aware though, that it is a SOHC engine, belt driven, and the belt has to be replaced every 100K miles or so. It is also an interference engine. So if the belt breaks, you'll smack a bunch of valves. But many of the manufacturers make engines with this design; Honda comes to mind, for one.

It also has the water pump inside the engine, driven by the belt.

Otherwise, it's proven to be a good, reliable, peppy engine.

I drove a base model Dodge Magnum with the 3.5L. Loved it. Smooth and powerful. Nice layout under the hood as well. I'd just get myself in trouble with anything more for DD use!

I have the 3.5HO in my 300M, and race it. Good, reliable motor. I have no complaints with the way the motor runs, or the power it has. If you maintain it, it will take care of you.
