Just wanted to see how many of you that use the secret elves brew run it in summer temperatures? Would it be better to run a 10w30 for my summer run April-Sept and than run GC Oct-March?

First put the magic brew in in august and will use it year round with no fear whatsoever...

GC can certainly be run the year around as could most any synthetic 0w30 or 5w30. However, with the excellent cold start properties of GC I could picture folks saving is for winter use to maximize the benefit based on limited supply.

I plan on running it exclusively, year around. Hopefully Castrol will maintain the supply.

Even though it's a 0w30 oil, it can handle the heat no problem. A lot of people (outside of this forum) think that this oil is going to be too thin for summer, but they are completely wrong. The viscosity of this oil in summertime temps is very similar to most 10w oils anyways, in fact it's 40C viscosity of 68.5 is thicker than most 10w oils, which are closer to 60 cst. And we all know GC is on the very top end of the 30wt scale, so it can definitely handle the hotter oil temps you'll see in the summer.

I know it sounds corny, but this oil truly can handle any temperature you're going to see, wherever you live. It'll flow better than most oils on the coldest winter day, but yet protect well even when it's a sweltering 110F heat wave outside.

I ran it for 5300 miles in my last car (V-6 Camry) during the early hot part of this past summer, and it seemed to do great. I posted a very encouraging UOA on this oil back in July. You can see it here.

Remember, this is both a 0w which means good cold flow and starting, AND a relatively thick 30wt when hot, which probably means good hot weather performance for those vehicles that call for/do well on a 30 wt oil.

EDIT: one more thing, I think I was too harsh in my comment about the TBN (see the comments in the UOA I posted). I now realize TBN performance is not necessarily linear, and others have successfully run GC for considerably longer.
