Do the automakers have lists of motor oils that meet their requirements? For example, does Ford have a list of motor oils that meet its new 5W-20 requirements?

I wouldn't expect them to. However, I would bet the API does as part of it's licensing plan. Anybody using the API "starburst" or "donut" mark has to be licensed to display the mark. I'd figure the API keeps track of who licenses thier marks, and for what. Wouldn't you?

Mystic,

BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche do (or have in the past) and I suspect some other Euro makers do (like Ferrari, Volvo, Saab, and Opel) or they at least have an oil they "recommend."

Volkswagen also has a list of oils that meet their requirements.

You mean something like this?

Note: that page is a little bit out-of-date.

Who recommends Mobil 1? Porsche, Mercedes, SAAB, Opel, Porsche, Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang Cobra R, Dodge Viper, Mistubishi Lancer EVO 8

Who recommends Castrol? Volvo, BMW, VW(?)

Ferrari likes Shell... who else did I forget?
