Do Gasoline engines produce soot?

yes, and it is far finer soot than diesels produce. Many theorize that the effect of gasoline engine soot can actually be worse, as this "nano-based" soot can lodge deeper and harder into the lungs than diesel. I guess it turns into a quantity vs. quality issue then.
