DIY conversion of normal bicycle to electric

Cool idea, DIY project adds an in-wheel electric motor and simple batteries to your existing bicycle. Everyone has probably seen these videos but it's new to me. Looks very easy to build.

Some old timer was talking to me about it while I "in the 'Zone" the other day. Seems like any decent sized batt would be a theft risk. Deep-cycle Marine would be someplace to start. They go for a couple hours.

Dial-up means it will take some time to load the vids, but I'll give it a shot.

What makes electric bike appealing is no regulation, generally.

Walmart has a $348 version. Apparantly the batteries need replacing every year.

Benefit over a gasser is you can take an electric bike up to your office on the elevator, park it at your cubicle, and noone will complain about the smell. And you can charge it on your boss' nickel.

One could disguise their bike and battery with "hobo pickin's" but then the homeless would be all over it like white on rice.
