Does adding Valvoline MaxLife Engine protector additive to an el cheapo oil such as dino Super Tech or even Valvolines dino base oil or even Napa Dino an equal to buying Valvoline MaxLife to from the outset.

More simply put - Does Napa 5w30 conventional + bottle of Valvoline MaxLife Engine protector = Volvoline Max life oil?

Bottom line Big Lots has Valvoline MaxLife Engine protector for $2 a bottle and If it brings up a base oil to Valvoline MaxLife oil then maybe it's a good deal.

Maybe not . . .?

No, I don't think it will equal Maxlife. There used to be a VOA on this product and it didn't really show much AW adds over what regular oil has in it. Probably the only benefit is some seal conditioners and it might help an oil burner engine because it is SOOOO thick. I would not use this product in the wintertime, especially at the prescribed dosage. If it were me and I wanted to run a Maxlife type oil, I would watch sales for one of the major brand high milage oils to go on a dirt cheap sale and run that.

I pulled up the VOA for both Syn power & Maxlife and Synpower has more of the good stuff. I guess what I'm really getting at is will adding the EP product really added enough of the mystery ingredient to condition seals etc.

What is that ingredient that swells the seals slightly? I just replaced my crank & cam seal on my Civic only other seal that is leaking small amount ins my main rear seal.

Why not get the CD-2 75000 mile Engine Oil Additive at Big Lots for $1.50 a pint? That has 4000 ppm zinc and will make a nice robust high mileage oil out of plain old NAPA oil. Won't be Maxlife though. Maxlife has PAO in it.

The Max Engine Protector will thicken your oil a lot more and doesn't have a lot of goodies (well it has seal conditioners and some moly) like the Valvoline Synpower additive. Both thinken a lot though.

I think you are better off waiting for a sale on Maxlife.

Thats what im gunno do tonight, in my fatrhers 98 corolla, for winter, use mobile 7500 5w30,a nd CD 2 75000 mile additive. I bought a few bottles, of the valvoline hih milage stuff, the VSOT is gone: ( But, thats because his intake has oil consumption issues..

I added the Maxlife additive from Big Lots to 10w30 conventional, and I can say that my oil consumption has dropped dramatically.
