Differential Fluid used Instead of Haldex Fluid

My mechanic used Redline Differential Fluid 75w-90 instead of Haldex Fluid in my 2005 Volvo XC70.

How bad is this? He commented the fluids felt the same in his fingers lol.

oof., I doubt it will cause instant damage.. but it needs to be swapped out the faster the better.
if I were ocd I'd change it, then after 500miles change it again to get more gear oil out.

but maybe someone else knows something I dont.

mechanics rarely know anything about oil. i would get it documented that he used the wrong fluid and make him switch it free of charge.

The genuine Haldex fluid is expensive. Like, $40/quart.

But since the Haldex unit is a clutch, I would get that out of there ASAP. I could see the EP additives having a negative impact on engagement of that clutch.

amazon has some around $40 but might want to double check its the right haldex fluid.

Haldex unit has a replaceable filter. Have the filter changed along with the correct Haldex fluid. Source FCPeuro

Update: new oem haldex filter and fluid changed. I plan to do one more drain and fill. I hope no damage was done.

I remember replacing such fluid in friend's car and fluid looked very thin, filter was a screen in that S60 and I just cleaned it and put it back in.

Don’t worry, you are good.

I would go Ravenol AWD-H fluid. Has far better shear stability and cold performance than OE fluid. Also, it is $28 on Blueparts.

5th generation doesn’t have. It has mesh screen. Screen should be cleaned with brakeclean. I found it easier to clean mesh screen on 5th generation than replace filter of 4th.
