I am planning to buy a new truck next year that I will keep for at least 10 years. I am thinking of a diesel 3/4 ton.Which of Chevy, Dodge and Ford do you BITOG's recommend ?

The new Dodges have a new Automatic which has not been proven but is probably really good. Their manuals are very good. I used to search this a lot because I thought I was going to get a big diesel. So I searched all the forums regarding the big 3 diesels. Well I would stay away from Ford. They recently replaced their engine and now to work on it the whole front section must be completely removed. I would say go for the Chevy or the Dodge the Duramax is proven itself now along with the Ally transmission. I don't know what you are going to use it for but keep in mind the Dodge has a solid front axle which of course will be stronger and cheaper to repair. But the chevy will ride better with the independent front suspension.
Although most people seem to want an auto, when I bought my Dodge over half bought a manual transmission. Some think that the newer Dodge auto (48 something) probably has fewer problems than the Allison; see below for the Duramax FAQ:

A: Like most any currently produced computer controlled automatic transmission, there are lots of individual components that would disable the transmission should one of those parts fail or not function properly. So, yes, there have been a number of Allison problems reported. Most of these were due to minor issues such as fluid leaks, sticky solenoids, loose wiring connectors, and the like. However, no Allison 1000 Series 5-speed automatic has failed because of the load it was asked to pull. This transmission has proven itself to be virtually bulletproof for pulling max GCVW loads (22,000 lbs) in the hottest desert heat. This is simply the best light-truck automatic transmission.

I used to work at Ford. The truck I would buy would be a 2003 F-350 7.3L with low miles hopefully. If you had seen the problems with the 6.0L(injectors and EGR coolers) and the new 6.4 you would know to stay away from them.
The main reason I would be careful buying a new diesel is all these new laws requiring reduced emissions from the new engines. Look at all the new ____ they have on these new trucks. You cant even put your own exhaust on em anymore.

Hey! Thanks for the replies! Mcrn, I just read that about the new Ford, so no to them. It will be 2WD. I quess I'm going to have to wait. Wife wants a new mini-van. So, I'll probably get a Nissan Quest or Toyota Sienna. But, someday....
Stay away from the Ford 6.0 at all costs. The Dodge will last forever, but louder than the GM and rougher riding.
The Duramax I've seen with the highest mileage so far is about 250k plus. So far so good.
