I was gonna go, but when I heard the Blue Angels canceled because of the loss of one of their pilots, I decided not to go. Just wondering if it was any good this year. I certainly didn't hear or see the amount of planes flying over my house this year like I had in past years...

Naval Aviators are the best of the best of the best. The Blue Angles out perform any other flight demo team tenfold.

I hear this all the time, and I disagree. I think the Thunderbirds are better...then again, it probably helps that they fly superior aircraft...

Grampi, I was there. Certainly not as big of a show as previous years. They had the typical static displays (F-16, F-18, a couple of F-35's, lots of ultralights, etc etc). The show itself was pretty good. Sean D. Tucker as usual, the Wright flyer, F-18 demo, an excellent F-22 demo, an F-22/P-51 heritage flight, and the Tora Tora Tora with the wall of fire as in the past. A bit more tame than previous years since there was no Blue Angel or Thunderbird presence, but a ok show overall. Of course the sun was absolutely brutal....sunburned like every other year.

Since you've been in the past, you didn't miss anything out of the ordinary.

I will plan on going again next year, provided they have everyone who is scheduled show up...but I do understand why the Blue Angels didn't show up this year...

How many warbirds did they have? That's what I enjoy the most, though I also enjoy the flight teams...

The Thunderbirds fly old F-16s.

They sometimes get pretty close in formation.

So, neither their airplane, nor their pilots, meet the standards of the Blue Angels.

By the way, I've got $20 that says the T-birds crash in Colorado Springs was due to flameout. Look at the crash photos - no fire...there was no fuel in that jet.

Nice, ran out of gas (bozo/rookie mistake) in front of the President while doing an airshow for your service academy.

Those "old" F-16s will outperform an F-18 any day, and twice during an air show...and Air Force pilots are better than Navy pilots...

Surely you Jest!

AF pilots are just 9 to 5 fair weather flyers, Navy pilots are all weather pilots that fly a more strict regime, carrier ops is the most demanding of all flying, with three WestPacs under my belt and 22 yrs of Naval aircraft maintenance experience you haven't a clue Grampi.

Yeah, grampi is a hoot and one of those that makes BITOG great. We need grampi.

My dad (USMC) would like to thank you fine Navy folk for taking him everywhere he needed to go.

You're the one with no clue...that, or you've been watching too much Top Gun...Oh yeah, I'm a 22 year AF vet myself...

And how many hours do you have flying the F-16?

Just wondering....

There's Blue Angel close...

And wanna' be close....

The ultimate in precision flying is landing on a carrier. USAF guys may be good, but they've never passed that test.

USAF pilots go through just as rigorous training as Navy pilots do...I agree carrier landings are more difficult than landing on runways, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're better pilots, or that their training is more rigorous...it just means they have tougher landings...

Air Force pilot
Naval Aviator
There is a difference.
My neighbor is a retired airline pilot yep in the big league of pilots! He explained in great detail on how the Blue Angles are way better pilots than the Thunderbirds. Even I notice how they use the air differently. The Blue Angles are bad as... They have grande huevos
