I just saw a pic of the back of a MOBIL 1 0w-40 bottle in a UOA, in the analysis section of this site.

In the API symbol it shows the 0w-40 as "energy conserving" but on the back of my bottle (0w-40 left over from last oil change) it leaves that space blank, like in all other 40 weights.
Anyone know if the oil was thickened in the last year or so?
Or any other reason it lost that classification?
I realize it was right on the borderline making it and even s slight thickening could have brought it out of "energy conserving" spec.

Hi Fred,

The following is not a week old. As you can
see, it says "Energy Conserving".

When Mobil 1 SuperSyn 0w40 first came out, it didn't carry the GF-3 starburst or the Engergy Conserving label. There may still be a few of these older bottles floating around, but all the ones in my AutoZone are the new bottles.
