Did the band l/act Kiss have hit? Article states they did

In my comparison between Kiss and the Monkeys, I fear I wasn't clear. I wasn't trying to say the Monkeys had any musical ability. I was trying to say that IMO, neither Kiss nor the Monkeys had any. Both bands are terrible, again IMO. One or two members having skills does not a band make.
This makes me think of a bit in the movie "Hired Gun", a documentary by (now ex) FFDP guitarist Jason Hook about bands and the music industry. This bit was about the dynamics of the band, not necessarily who was the best musician. This meant that who you hear playing on the album may not be all the same people you see on stage. Steely Dan was one such example, where a studio musician played the solo on the album, not the band's guitarist. On the road, and on the stage, it's about who fits and works together. Who can put up with each other for that long without violence, lol. So if you can at least play the part, even if you aren't a great musician, you may be a better fit for the band, because you get along with the other members, than somebody who is phenomenal, but a complete douche canoe; is absolutely insufferable.

As you can tell from my previous posts, I am a fan of Kiss. I happen to not enjoy country music, but I’m not about to tell a country music fan that Garth Brooks sucks. The Monkees were never musicians. The members of Kiss write their own songs, and record the songs that are on their albums. The reunion tour in 1996 broke attendance records all over the world.

Ima say it. I started high school in 72, finished college 80. For rock music, or maybe no other music, from the late 60's until the (early?) 80's (90's not so much methinks) there was no better music, or really better music expression explosion in history. I'm open to feedback, body slams on this. Good discussion!

I didn't hate Kiss (despite what I said above). They were decent entertainers for the crowd, I had one close friend who was a solid Kiss fan. But given so much excellent music during that time period? They just did not wow me.
