This makes me think of a bit in the movie "Hired Gun", a documentary by (now ex) FFDP guitarist Jason Hook about bands and the music industry. This bit was about the dynamics of the band, not necessarily who was the best musician. This meant that who you hear playing on the album may not be all the same people you see on stage. Steely Dan was one such example, where a studio musician played the solo on the album, not the band's guitarist. On the road, and on the stage, it's about who fits and works together. Who can put up with each other for that long without violence, lol. So if you can at least play the part, even if you aren't a great musician, you may be a better fit for the band, because you get along with the other members, than somebody who is phenomenal, but a complete douche canoe; is absolutely insufferable. In my comparison between Kiss and the Monkeys, I fear I wasn't clear. I wasn't trying to say the Monkeys had any musical ability. I was trying to say that IMO, neither Kiss nor the Monkeys had any. Both bands are terrible, again IMO. One or two members having skills does not a band make.
