I am using Dex VI in my 72 Burb equipped with a TH700, a 4-pass cooler, and a PermaCool filter mount that uses PH8A equivalent filters. The Dex VI seems quite thin and because of this I felt comfortable trying a more efficient filter, a PureOne. I do not know how much pressure a transmission pushes when sending ATF to the radiator but I presume it is not very high (I may be wrong). I am worried that I may be restricting flow. If you have a PermaCool ATF setup, what filter are you using? Is Dex VI thinner in terms of viscosity?

I don't know if it helps, but I have a B&M filter (looks the same as Perma Cool) on my 03 Escape. Due to space concerns, I use a slightly shorter filter. When I installed the filter, I used a Purolator Premium Pluss that was equilivant to a Motorcraft FL300. When I serviced the fluid at 30,000 miles, I changed the filter, using a PureOne of the same size. It seems to work great for me.
PH8a size requires a bypass in the filter. I would not worry about ANY filter in that size. So feel free to use the better filtering boutique filters from Amsoil, Pureone, M1, KN,.....
If 15-20cst 10w40's and 20w50s flow throught the PH8a, a 6cst D-VI or 7.3 CST D-III should have no problems with flow! And, if it did, it'll bypass some as needed.
As long as the cooler and filter line runs aren't too long, and that the hoses/fittings are the correct size(equal or larger then transmission output fittings), there is no need to worry about flow restrictions.
The B&M, Transdapt, and Permacool use the 3/4"16 mount. That mount should hold filters from 1/2-pint sized all the way up to the 2-quart sized filters. The only issue is that smaller filters should be changed more often. Toyota, Ford, and Dodge, have a full range of filters with 3/4" threads to choose from.
A normal PH8a sized filter should easily last 30k miles in a transmission. But, since that filter size isn't too expensive, feel free to change it out whenver you want or at least yearly.

Im not 100% sure but I recall the Th700 being the 4 speed GM trans with overdrive (similiar to the 4l60 and 4l60e). The trans coolant lines on my 4l60e operate at a whopping 17-20psi. Knowing GM, things prolly haven't changed much so as unDummy said you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
