I know that DEX VI is backwards compatible in the DEX line. I have heard that Mercon V is now the fill for the previous Mercon fluids.

Can we make the leap and presume that DEX VI is also backwards compatible with Mercon, and Mercon V with previous DEX products? I rather doubt it, but I know this is the place to ask.

I'm just posting in response to a conversation I had with a person at work. Please don't shoot the messenger.

I would not foresee any issues using DexronVI in place of Mercon. And, since DexronVI has improved HFM, I would bet that it would perform well in place of MerconV. Its cold weather performance is also similar.

The petrocan DexronVI mentions "prevents shudder" and "smooth gear shifts". MerconV addresses these issues when compared to plain ol' Dex/Merc.
