From what I've heard, Detroit is like a place out of another world. I can't blame GM or anybody else for wanting out.....

Moving their headquarters would have been costly and a big disruption. They had enough to focus on at the time without throwing that into the mix.

Detroit is a ghost town, kind of how Asbury park was in the 80's and 90's. The impact is huge in Detroit, the loss of $20+ million in taxes alone would kill the city, then the shuffle of jobs if any would put the nail in the coffin.

Motor City..What's Left
I know it's pretty politically weighted. But I'm hoping I can add this for discusion and hope we can keep it non political.....if thats even possible. I'll only add this, it displays for me the never ending animosity between Detroit and it's immediate neighbors in every direction. I find it striking to see a City Mayor openly claim that saving GM is more important than saving Detroit....To me, they are tied at the hip at this point. GM should have got out like Ford did, way back in the day, when the gettin was good. But then again, the old man Ford always did have it all over Durant and his "buddies" at GM. http://www.freep.com/article/20100903/NE...stay-in-Detroit
