Detergent or not

My compressor manual states that I should use 40wt HD oil. did not mention anything about non detergentsy.

I alway thought that compressor needed non detergent.

What should I use?

Just to be on the safe side, and in lieu of no other info, I would go with an ISO 150 compressor oil in either a synthetic formulation or a Blend.

I thought that as a basic rule was that when having an oil filter then use a detergent.
When no oil filter then use non- detergent.
I am interested how this is going to turn out.
