There are some things I just hate doing waxing is one of them. Up till now i've just used spray on waxes but they don't seem to last very long. I'm thinking about taking our two vehicles to a detail shop every 6 months and get a good wash and hand wax. For those that use detail shops which ones do use? And what should I expect as far as cost? I'm located in the Kansas City area so if anyone knows of good places post'em.

A complete detail job for the exterior is a multi-step process involving a clay bar treatment, polish, followed by a sealant or wax to top-off. I'd say this would run you around $200 per car...

I'm in the process of trying to start my own small detailing business on the side (nothing major, just another income). Anyway, make sure you ask a lot of questions. What exactly do you get? What is their process? What kind of products do they use? Ask to look at their work area. If it's dirty or messy, go somewhere else. Ask to see pictures of their work.

Cost should be based on size & condition of vehicle, and also the steps being performed. I would say that for a full detail on a small car in "average" condition would run around $150.

Here's a detail job I did about a month ago: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2384

Here in Toronto there is a chain of detail shops called Fine Details which offer very good deals on detailing. For example, a hand wash is $15, a wax job is $60 (with Meguiar's #26) or $100 (with Meguiar's #21), a full interior detailing including wash is $110. They even offer a high speed buffing package for $300 which gets rid of virtually all scratches in the paint (unless they are super deep of course)

mshu7 you did a great job on that car, I'm sure the guy was very happy. So how did you get the paint looking so good? What products did you use? The car looked like ________ before you worked on it.

Wow that Mazda 3 looks good. The paint of both are fairly good, has had only hand washes. The $15 and $60 sounds reasonable and is roughly the prices they charge around here. Would a car ever need complete detail with 6 month waxes?
