design of pittman arm and its splines

why are pittman arms so hard to work with? they have small splines and are located under the car where they get a lot of grit and water and rust in the splines. and ford excursion splines are small and fine and rust together. Why is not that connection one that has maybe 10 splines?? or some other number or design. ?

I never had a problem removing the pitman arm when using a quality tool or installing. The spline design, I believe is for strength.

think so too, the bigger the spiles the smaller the minimum diameter becomes
