Several motorists who were speeding through an elementary school zone on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway received an odorous onion as a reminder to slow down from a county sheriff’s deputy dressed as the Grinch.

I was in the Keys this past Sunday and saw these officers in action. They also have a Santa with radar gun.

Speeding in a school zone during school hours is taken much more seriously than "normal" speeding. I am totally good with that.

The linked video deals with different speed ranges, but the concept remains the same. A few MPH more at the start of braking can have fatal consequences for the kid that runs into the street unexpectedly.

So get an onion for breaking the law, but only slightly so.

I think I'd quite prefer that to the ticket instead.
