Quoting from another thread:

Denso oil filters are being manufactured in Japan, Thailand, China, USA, etc. A Finnish magazine tested a Chinese Denso oil filter as near-top-ranking while Amsoil tested the Thai equivalent of the same filter as rock-bottom-ranking (no pun intended with rock catcher). To me it looks like there is too much variation in performance of the Denso oil filters with the country of origin (COO) and I trust the Amsoil results that the Thailand-made Denso oil filters are so-called rock catchers.
Note that Toyota also sells USA-made (by Champion Laboratories) performance oil filters for their TRD program.
Bringing back this thread from the dead.
Yes, this Toyota OEM oil filter sold in Finland seems to be the made-in China Toyota/Denso 90915-YZZJ1, a replacement for the made-in-Taiwan Toyota/Denso 90915-YZZF2 sold in USA.
This made-in-China Toyota/Denso oil filter came the second from the top in this Finnish magazine's tests.
As you see, quality of the Toyota OEM oil filters greatly vary, as they are manufactured in several different countries, including Japan, Thailand, China, and USA.
Made-in-Thailand Toyota/Denso 90915-YZZF2 came by far at the very bottom in the tests conducted for Amsoil, showing how different the quality of the Toyota/Denso oil filters could be according to the country of the origin.
Years ago Toyota OEM oil filter 90915-10001 (made in either Thailand or Japan for this part number) came the second from the bottom in some other Finnish magazine's tests. However, this test is really outdated and there have been some counterfeit 90915-10001 oil filters as well.
