New to the forum but have stalked in the background for years-- good info here.

Here's a voa on some Delvac Extreme 15W40 that I run in a 1LW 3406 cat--pretty severe service unit in oilfield grossing 120-130k pretty consistently with 250 hour OCI that's happening monthly. I'll be following up with some UOA so we can see how this Delvac Extreme synthetic shapes up.

Anybody care to offer any feedback on this oil or suggest something better?Thought about HPL but for that price, I'll just run the cheaper and change monthly-- even though I'm a fanatic about maintenance...

Look forward to talking with you guys. Thanks
🙂

I don't know crap about an application like yours, but I do like the oil analysis. Nice levels of Phosphorus and Zinc.
THanks for the reply. Yeah, I was surprised too. I don't know much about the base oil in this Delvac but the additive package seems comparable to Schaffer's--slightly less calcium in the Delvac I think 🤔

If you’re up for posting UOAs there are a lot of people on the site that will gladly help you with analysis.

A quick search shows an 11 gallon oil sump for this engine. Extending the drain interval might save you money. It will certainly save you the hassle.

Thanks for the reply. I have the quick drain valve on oil pan and empty 5 gal bucket fits under it perfectly, I knock a hole in the bottom of the old filter with a punch and drain into a bucket so I can do a whole as s oil change in 15 minutes tops and not a drop will hit the ground-- it ain't a hassle, I like to take care of my truck, so I enjoy oil changes and stuff.

250 bucks a month just counting the oil and cat filter is okay with me, I definitely want to take the best care I can of the truck. I might consider going to hpl and doing a somewhat extended oci on that oil, but not on this Delvac. Seems like every 230-250 hours she'll drink a gallon over the period of a 12-15 hour shift so that's when I definitely change it. Other than that there's no consumption though.

I'm also adding a bottle of Hotshot's Stickson Eliminator to help out the HEUI injectors and such every OCI

Looks like you've got it down. Excellent maintenance.

I don’t have the background to help you with extending the OCI. @dnewton3 and others do.

Welcome to the forum sir. Nice report also.

Thats to quick , let er drain!, you're leaving lots of old(soot) oil in there.

Its done draining by then. Granted on that pan there's another drain plug in the front that's not in the sump that holds a quart but I rarely have time to drain that one. I change that oil so frequently that it's not too much of an issue I'd think... Maybe I'm wrong

Looks like it would be a pretty decent motorcycle oil too. Low-moderate levels of moly and boron, decently high levels of ZDDP, synthetic (mostly?), high'ish but not too high calcium and using magnesium to counter balance, obviously good viscosity for warmer areas and/or conditions, and good amount of anti foaming.

What is not known are levels of organic FM's that could negatively affect clutch use? But honestly, from the metallic compound perspective at least, looks better than Shell Rotella to me. I'm curious what the base oils are?

I'm wondering base oils too 🤔 you think I should add in that schaffers moly additive to give this Delvac a little boost? I've been thinking about John Deere Plus 50-II--I've seen that it's loaded down with moly 😁

I think the chemists at Exxon Mobil know how to formulate a lubricant.

I wouldn’t over think this. 😉
