I doubt that it was due to the age of the filters as the other two that came from the same box got 0.3 on their insoluables count and one of those intervals was 6,003 miles. If this filter would have failed I'm sure that there would have been higher insoluables with higher wear.
Patman and John, I agree that the 15w-50 worked great for it's 4,536 mile sample, or 6,560 mile run. With only 1 3/4 quarts over 4,536 miles which is a quart every 2592 miles wasn't bad at all. I might run another interval with thick oil as it didn't knock down my gas mileage more than a MPG or two and at 35 MPG, an extra MPG or two really doesn't make much of a difference, especially when some people on this forum are thinking that your engine is dying when it consumes. Like I said before, I will probably just be sticking with the dino over the summer which will be the Chevron Supreme 5w30.
