Deceptive car salesman loses a sale

I'd walk as soon as that was brought up.
Nice to be able to "walk". But sometimes you want to buy a car, there are limited dealer locations, and I deal with it. I usually plan to "buy here service here".
Many 'ships have moved earnest money to coincide with signing the initial yellow paper contract before the finance office. A somewhat easier pill to swallow. A down payment of sorts - in case things go awry in the back room?

Then there is the sequestering of your "trade-in keys" That's an oldie but goodie. Lol.

I don't know why or how any of you put up with dealer nonsense???
I bought a used vehicle in August. Went shopping with a list of dealers to visit with specific vehicles to look at if they were still available. At the first dealer I walked out in the first few minutes. Second dealer (Ted Britt in Chantilly) didn't even try any shenanigans. Ended up buying the vehicle there after negotiating $2500 off on a used vehicle. I suspect part of it was the figured out pretty quickly who they were dealing with.

That's a simple fix.
That is when you pull out your cellphone, punch in 911, and present yourself as ready to hit the send button, and inform the operator that you are being held against your will.
You get your keys back real quick.

But not done yet. At one notorious dealer on the coast, I was held hostage in the finance office - literally - by some femme fatale finance lady pressing thousands of aftersale garbage. I wish I had a hidden camera - those two lost hours would be fun to re watch and share.

Find out when closing is for the dealership, and set your appointment to pick up the vehicle 15 minutes before closing.
That really minimizes the "PooPoo Platter."
When it is on their own time, they want to go home.

And that is also back, for the most part. Unless you're looking for certain Toyota products, many dealers are acting like it's 2019 again.
Heck, I just bought my sister's 25 Forester for $5100 off MSRP with no add-on's.

It's regional. Good for you guys. You cannot get discounts on Subarus like that in Utah-it's a tough state to buy a car in.

No, I can always get them back. Six foot one 250 and booming voice. I just thought it was funny. At one notorious place I hold my set of keys and give then a spare set.

I'm 6'4' and heavier than that.
It was just remarkable funny when they saw that I was serious and ready to hit the button.
I figured, I had the tech, why not use it?
I just didn't think that woman sales manager that tried getting all hard with me, could move that fast.

I’m dealing with salesmen now and I’ll be the first to say i find most of them annoying.

I would hardly call any of this deception. He gave you a 10k number without checking with his manager. I would just say we are going the wrong way here and go from there.

Agreed, I dont see deception.

Actually getting any price via email and text is a courtesy vs "come in and we'll talk."

OP made an offer, dealership countered - clean and fair.

I always negotiate an OTD number; the dealer can break out the numbers any way they want as long as we agree on an OTD number. If the dealer won't negotiate an OTD number I walk.
