You can get some RPMs with a 396. But an equal built 454 will cream you. There is lots of difference.If there is a class you could run in then you would have competition. .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZC3qGKpqNo . I went to school with the driver and the engine builder for the boat. We built a 396 [Actually 402 that was quite impressive]. I Still couldn't keep up with a 454 ci [Usually 468+ ] boat.
