For whom it may concern [Big Grin] I have an older (20 yrs) book by ESSO [Roll Eyes] which states: 1. "Cylinder gas temerature can exceed 1670 C (3038 F)" 2. First ring groove temperatures can exceed 250 C (482 F ). 3. Cylinder liner skin temperatures rarely exceed 260 C (500 F). 4. Oil bulk temperature in crankcase rarely exceeds 75 C (167 F). 5. Highly Rated diesel crand cases may exceed 90 C (194 F) Nothing earth shaking-just thought I'd post [Smile] .

sounds like a very old book, it's not uncommon to get crankcase oil temps close to 200 degrees under hard driving condition, but good info nonetheless. Combustion temps are hot as hell though aren't they.
