Hello Bitog,

Thanks for helping me again when I have no one give me insight.

I'm repairing a 1998 Renault Clio II that I was going to sell.
The last time it was fired up the coolant expansion tank was "vomiting" coolant.

I did my tests and the head gasket failed.

I took the engine apart and gave a look at everything.
I haven't measured yet with a straight edge, but the head was in a very acceptable state.

But there's one thing that keeps bugging me:

This "indentation" on the cylinder head, and it's place.
The is no coolant or oil channel bellow it, or even very close.
Yet, this was what cause the head failure.

The engine is a 1998, Renault F8Q.

I'm not sure if it's worth to resurface the head as it needs to have material added to it and that will exponentially increase the repair value.

What do you guys think happened here?

Thank you in advance!

some type of rot to the aluminum and it is usually coolant seeped in that spot and went to work over the years not uncommon on aluminum heads of any type

Thank you very much for replying.

This is a 25 year old car that I'm planing to sell.
Maximum sell value would be 1500€ (1700$)

Would you give it right away to machining or would you try to repair ir yourself if the head is not warped?

Is high temperature epoxy worth a shot?

If you don’t repair it right, you’ll be doing it again and probably at even more cost. The shop can tell you if they can do it for a reasonable cost. There is also the possibility of a salvage head in decent shape.
