Cut Open: Fram PH4967

ZOMOG an OCOD!! lol anyways.. My sis was complaining of start up knock after an oil change with her 2004 neon.

When doing the trans fluid and filter, I noticed the OCOD attached like some parasite on the filter base. It was incorrect for the app and was leaking because the gasket was to small. It was rather sad looking.

So I was going to throw on a wix 51516, but it hung down about an inch lower than the oil pan and frame. So I hit up wix's website and looked up the correct filter.

Long story short it has a wix 51348 on it and still has the start up knock. but not longer leaking.

And for your enjoyment a Fram PH4967 with about 200 miles on it:

I'm sure the fram would have done fine for the OCI, but wow that filter media looks cheap!

Nothing like the wrong part used as you merrily drive away!

Filter looks in good shape, as it should with only 200 miles. I've seen a lot worse brand new filters than this Fram.

Fram and Champion Labs uses the exact same bypass valve design, in the leaf spring. At least Champ does on the non-ecore ST7317.

ocod = Orange Can of Death. It's a technical term used here on BITOG.

Yeah I meant it to be funny... in case someone thought i was seriously hating on fram in an over the top manner.
