Crush Washer Required?

I have replaced crush washers on many cars, but it seems completely random how often I have to do that task.

I suspect frequently using cheap oil change places are the #1 cause of needing new washers.
 
There are many different styles.. the one on the 2010 accent is a "crush" washer that does not really crush. Its fairly reusable.

I have a couple extras but reuse at least 1-2x.


2011 subaru forester style actually crushes into shape. not reusable. Fresh one every time@98cents.

Here is an idea... get one crush washer, and use it when you install a new Fumoto drain valve on the pan and you will never need a crush washer again for the life of the vehicle. And it is soooo much easier to drain the oil with virtually no mess.
 
I like TiredTruckers idea. The rest of us, including NasCar and aircraft Mechanics will/can use a crush washer or torque wrench on critical parts or assemblies. :-))
