GC-23 Naiguatá, a 272 ft, 1,720 t littoral patrol boat of the Venezuelan navy, built by Navantia in Spain in 2008. This was one of three ships of the same class. A fourth, the Comandante Eterno Hugo Chávez was cancelled.
RCGS Resolute, a 409 ft, 8,445 t five-star ice-strengthened expedition cruise ship, built by Rauma in Finland in 1990. Currently owned by Hapag-Lloyd.
The navy ship, after first firing upon the cruise ship, rammed the cruise ship and promptly sank. Venezuela lost one third of its Guaicamacuto class patrol ship fleet. The German-owned cruise ship suffered a small scratch.
