I had this often growing up on a farm. Nothing beat fresh bread and our own cattle. Anyone else like this?
I've always referred to that as " on a shingle". One of my favorites!
Did you dry salt the beef or use fresh beef? Fresh beef. Home made bread. Well made white sauce.I had this often growing up on a farm. Nothing beat fresh bread and our own cattle. Anyone else like this?

I could warm up to a gourmet version of SOS. Golden-brown toasted seeded multigrain toast, chipped filet mignon, a delicious cream sauce made with crème fraîche and wild mushrooms. Now that's the kind of SOS I'll want to eat. I knew a girl once who made a variant of SOS. A can of Chicken a la King over toast. This relationship did not last.
Love hamburger gravy too!SOS? I had that as a kid but it was ground beef in gravy and then served on top of toast for breakfast. Great with eggs on the side.
