Here's a smart story:

neighbor has a car, he lets his other friend borrow it for a drive around the block, he almost hits a house (still don't understand how you almost hit a house), so he swerves and hits a pole instead. Both are in highschool

Takes off his back bumper, bangs up the right back fender pretty good, puts a good sized dent in the door, crackes his right mirror, scratches his rim, and puts a scratch alongside the entire side of the car (looks like if you were to sideswipe a fire hydrant)

the house belongs to an ex cop, whos son is a cop. He calls his son, the kid is stupid enough to drive away (leaving behind the bumper and license plate). So the cop finds the car (kinda would be hard to miss it I guess!) and gives the kid who was driving 3 tickets.

Careless driving: $85 and 2 points

Leaving the scene of an accident: $200-$400 and 2 points

Failure to report an accident: $30-$100

From what i've gathered on the internet. It's a shame that he ONLY is going to get 4 points and have to pay a few hundred dollars for doing something so dumb, won't even lose his license. Meanwhile when I was his age I pay twice that price and get 4 points for passing in a no passing zone, only thing i've ever hit was a curb when parking.

Well exciting day for both of them I guess, not in a good way. He can still drive the car, but it's a 96 jetta in good shape, low mileage, so it would kinda suck to junk a car like that. Any advice I can give to him? He has insurance, just not collision, and anyway I think with the damage done the insurance company would claim it totaled anyway. Hopefully his friends dad will make him pay for the damage, but you know how some people are.

and please don't flame my neighbor, his only mistake today was trusting his friend

Yea I think you're right on that one obbop, glad it's not my problem, but it might turn out good for him. He never liked his car too much as he had it given to him, now he can pick out something he likes.

Plus shopping for a new (used) car is pretty fun.

oilyriser - lol, I think you may be right. the one who crashed the car was a good student too from what I hear, goes to show you anybody can be a candidate!

Wow - that is pretty funny - had to laugh at that one for a few seconds. Where I live there are many (active/retired) LAPD officers. Funny how many people they catch right in front of their houses... but this is great - lol - leaving behind a bumper with the license plate. He had to hit that pole HARD.

In a way the kid is gifted for accomplishing all that with just a drive around the block!

Why would anyone loan a car to just ride around the block?
